Dear Wine Lovers,
Melissa Message
What's Happening at the Winery
by Melissa Stephan

Melissa, Event ManagerHave you been to visit us lately?  It's all happening, right now!!  Grapes are coming in by the tons, machines are whirring, juice is flowing, Rob and his crew are in constant motion, the aromas are incredible - THIS is what it's all about!  Every time I walk past the action I take a big sniff, drool a little and walk away happy - and it's not even officially wine yet, I can't wait until it's ready to drink! There are only a couple of weeks of harvest left so, if you haven't come by, come soon.  There's nothing like seeing up close what it really takes to make the stuff we all love so much!

Speaking of wine we love, did you hear the news?  Our very own 2006 "Fletcher's" Chardonnay has won the competition medal to beat them all! It was awarded the BEST OF SHOW medal at the 2008 Virginia State Fair Wine Competition. Now, think about this for a second. This is a competition where only Virginia's finest wines are tasted and compared.  There are multiple Gold, Silver and Bronze medals awarded, all very prestigious in their own rite. But there is only one, I repeat - ONE -  Best of Show and it is awarded to the one wine that is judged to be the best of the best, the very best Virginia Wine.  Wow!!  What an honor, how exciting, such a thrill!!  Can we all get up and do a little jig in celebration of this winemaking achievement?  Rob and Chris, you are the best!

If you love Halloween, forget about your laundry, skip the grocery store, let the grass grow and come to the winery this weekend! (Oct 25-26)  It's our annual celebration of all things spooky - the Manor House has been overrun with spiders and bats and ghouls of all sorts.  Our faithful staff has been replaced by witches and pirates and all kinds of creeps and they're serving up Spider Cider and other fun treats.  Come on out, enjoy the glorious fall weather and have some fun with us!

Later Saturday night, things get really scary with our Halloween Spooktacular Winemaker's Dinner - the plates are crawling with scary delights and your cup will run over with witches brew throughout the night!  Our host, Count Dracula, will entertain and frighten you and we hope you'll come dressed to impress him - else you might suffer from his bite!  We'll begin the evening in the Haunted House and proceed with dinner in the Wine Dungeon.  Come if you dare, you'll never have so much fun!  I hope you'll join us, please call the winery for reservations and details or check it out, including the menu, on our happenings page.

November 8-9 we'll have one of our favorite painters and friend of the winery, Clara Thompson, back in the house with an exhibit of her latest work.  Clara is an exquisite painter and will unveil new paintings, including her new "Cherry Blossoms" series & Gold & Silver Leaf pieces.  Back by popular demand are more Italian Grottescas, Grapes on Vine with Plaster, Roosters & much more.  As a bonus to professional as well as amateur designers and decorators, she will be discussing trends and sharing insight into decorative painting as well as presenting updated samples and her portfolio.

Lots to see and do at the winery - don't let fall slip away without a visit!
