Dear Bob & Candace,

What's Happening at the Winery
by Melissa Stephen

Melissa, Event ManagerIt's hard to believe that Fall has almost slipped by! Seems like only yesterday we were filling pitchers with Sangria to cool you all off on those hot summer days and now it's almost Thanksgiving - wow!

September and October were a whirlwind, I'm not sure where to begin.  Did you hear about the surprise wedding? Yes, it's true. We helped the sweetest man plan a surprise wedding for his unsuspecting girlfriend. He assured me from the beginning (because I gasped at the very idea when he called) that he was not ruining her dreams of a big white wedding and that all of their closest friends were on board with helping him pull off this elaborate plan. Her girlfriends very cleverly figured out what dress would be perfect for her, and it was! The groom arranged to have the bride's father here to walk her down the aisle even though she didn't know was the aisle until she got to the end. When she got to the end, there were all of her family and friends waiting to celebrate. There was a photographer posing as a winery photographer documenting everything and, most importantly of all, she said "I do" and everything was perfect. So sweet!!

Then there was our Haunted Winemaker's Dinner. What a blast! All of our guests got totally into the spirit of the evening and came in costume. There were giant silver candelabras on every table, spiderwebs, bats and skulls everywhere you looked. The servers had on pretty creepy masks and every dish, while delicious, was spooky! Chris Pearmund, I mean Count Dracula, was our host and entertained everyone from beginning to end. This one's sure to be an annual event so start planning your costume now!

We have two new additions to our family at the winery. Their names are Norton and Claret and they're kittens. Norton is a boy and he's solid black with beautiful yellow eyes. Claret is his sister and she is completely gray. We adopted them from an incredible man who regularly catches feral cats, has them fixed, gets all of their shots up to date and then finds great homes for them. You might not see them if you come visit us anytime soon because they're still pretty terrified of people. We're working with them everyday and we know they'll learn to love it here as much as we do.

The week after Thanksgiving we'll be decorating the Manor House for Christmas. Please come by and enjoy the cozy atmosphere. The fireplaces will be roaring, the wine is plenty and we have some great new gifts in our shop that are perfect for the wine lovers on your list. We also have gift certificates available in any amount, a great mulled-wine kit perfect for your holiday gatherings and some very festive gift baskets filled with an array of wine and accessories.

All of you Snort fans will be happy to hear that we're bottling Snort and a new wine, Tannat, on December 7th.  We'll have both available for sale immediately, just in time for holiday giving and enjoying!

Also in December, we're making an exciting new tasting available. This one will be a reserve tasting that will include all 3 of our amazing reserve wines plus, due to popular demand, a tasting of Snort. This special Reserve Tasting will be $6 or only $5 if you have it in addition to our regular tasting.

We're all looking forward to Thanksgiving with our families and friends and hope that all of you have a wonderful holiday too. We'll be closed Thanksgiving Day but here with our regular hours the day before and the day after. If you're looking for a place to share with your out-of-town guests or just want a place to unwind, we'll be here for you!

Cancer Event at La Grange
Susan G. Komen Fund Raiser
by Bob Moe
Susan G. Komen for the Cure 2008Candace Moe and Chelle Gassan hosted a fund raiser for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure in honor of Merrie Rieke, sister and aunt, who passed away in 2001.

We want to thank everyone who attended and contributed to the success of our second annual event to raise funds for Breast Cancer Awareness.

We are happy to say that this year's event raised over $4000 in donations for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  That was $1000 more than last year's efforts. Our gratitude extends to the Winery at La Grange for assisting us in another successful event and their generous contribution to the cause.
