What's Happening at the Winery by Melissa Stephan |
Instead of "Wagons West", it has been "Wagons East" and we are happy to report that our new winemaker, Jef Stebben, has arrived from Napa and is busily getting settled in! He is already elbow-deep in wine making activities and we are so happy to have him. Please be sure to say hi to him when you are next at the winery, or, even better, sign up for our 3rd Annual " Taste of the Islands" dinner on July 18th and meet him then! This outdoor (I'm thinking positively here, people!) dinner is always a huge amount of fun and this year promises to be no different. Check the website for the menu and cost, but please be sure to make your reservations early as we only have a certain number of seats available!
June has been a busy month for La Grange, with many private functions, including some very special weddings and receptions, corporate events, and the always breath-taking Italian car club revving up and driving those beautiful machines in the countryside.
For Father's Day weekend SpartaWorks will be back, giving those wonderful $1.00 per 1 minute massages for Dad. He's worked hard, so bring him out for a glass of vino and a relaxing head and neck massage! Clara Thompson, our favorite local artist, and the creative genius behind the beautiful Riesling label will be on the property Saturday, June 20th showcasing her art and will be happy to sign your bottle of Riesling!
Looking ahead to July, we will begin offering our " Sangria and Guacamole" Friday nights on July 10th and July 24th from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The cost is $25 for a pitcher of our famous Sangria and guacamole and chips for you to enjoy it with. Please call the Winery to make your reservations, as this is sure to be a popular event! What better way to start your weekend than relaxing at La Grange and taking in the beautiful sunset over the mountains? I'll see you there! |

Recipe with 2007 La Grange Viognier or 2008 Reisling by Adale Henderson |
|
FINALLY! Haven't we waited long enough for summer's arrival? What better way to welcome all the gorgeous weather than by firing up the grill, pouring a nice cold glass of your favorite La Grange vino, and enjoying these tasty ~ and healthy ~ fish tacos on your patio. Although it is hard to choose, my personal favorite to pair with this recipe is the very tasty 2007 Viognier. Another winner would be our 2008 Reisling. Enjoy! I'll see you at the Winery! Adale
Grilled Fish Tacos
Yield: Makes 4 servings
Ingredients
- 2 cups chopped white onion, divided
- 3/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro, divided
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 5 tablespoons fresh lime juice, divided
- 3 tablespoons fresh orange juice
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano (preferably Mexican)
- 1 pound tilapia, striped bass, or sturgeon fillets
- Coarse kosher salt
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon milk
- Corn tortillas
- 2 avocados, peeled, pitted, sliced
- 1/2 small head of cabbage, cored, thinly sliced
- Salsa Verde
- Lime wedges
Preparation
Stir 1 cup onion, 1/4 cup cilantro, oil, 3 tablespoons lime juice, orange juice, garlic, and oregano in medium bowl. Sprinkle fish with coarse salt and pepper. Spread half of onion mixture over bottom of 11x7x2-inch glass baking dish. Arrange fish atop onion mixture. Spoon remaining onion mixture over fish. Cover and chill 30 minutes. Turn fish; cover and chill 30 minutes longer. Whisk mayonnaise, milk, and remaining 2 tablespoons lime juice in small bowl.
Brush grill grate with oil; prepare barbecue (medium-high heat). Grill fish with some marinade still clinging until just opaque in center, 3 to 5 minutes per side. Grill tortillas until slightly charred, about 10 seconds per side.
Coarsely chop fish; place on platter. Serve with lime mayonnaise, tortillas, remaining 1 cup chopped onion, remaining 1/2 cup cilantro, avocados, cabbage, Salsa Verde, and lime wedges.
