What's Happening at the Winery by Melissa Stephen |
|
Summer is here, boy is she here! Hot anybody?? No worries, we've got the cure. Everybody's favorite, Cuvee Blanc, is always chilling in our fridge. Have you tried our Rose of Merlot? For those of you who like the flavor of red but are craving anything cold, our lovely Rose is the wine for you. Yes, she's pink but she's bold and completely refreshing. And never ever forget, when nothing else will do, the fruity, the icy and the always-perfect-when-your-brow-is-moist, SANGRIA! I know, how do we do it? We just love you, that's all. Your drinking pleasure is our number one goal!
I've been getting lots of questions lately about the ghosts. I know it's been awhile since we reported anything but there just hasn't been anything to report. The winery has been so active (with the living) that either the ghosts aren't getting enough quiet time to make it worth their while to make themselves known or we just can't hear them. That said, we are scheduled for one more investigation by the experts later this month. They will again spend a night here doing what they do best and will give us the final report based on all three of their investigations sometime after that. We will be sure to keep you informed!
Are you into outdoor concerts? The Preservation Fund that supports our sister Manor House at Evergreen is once again sponsoring its summer concert series. Entrance to the concerts is free and there is food and drink, including wine from guess where?, available for sale. It's a wonderful cause to support the continued preservation of another great old Manor House in our neighborhood. Check out www.liveatevergreen.com for dates and details.
Did someone say " bling"? Our own Chris Pearmund did (he LOVES the bling!) when we received the results of our latest competition entries. The State Fair of VA Wine Competition awarded our "Fletcher's" Chardonnay a Gold medal, our Cabernet Franc scored Silver and our Snort took third place in the label competition - that's like being named best dressed! Then there was the Pacific Rim International Wine Competition where there is some seriously stiff competition, (because we are talking about the WORLD here). There we were awarded 3 silvers for Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay and Snort. Those three wines are on a roll!! We're all so proud of the wine being produced here! Big applause for Winemaker Rob!
Don't forget to call and make your reservation for our next Winemaker's Dinner. June 28 is the " Taste of the Islands" dinner held out on our lawn (I mean Island Paradise) where you'll be surrounded by music of the isles, tiki torches, flowers, parrots and more. Chef Kyle will fill your plate with conch fritters, fresh fish and glazed pork tenderloin. The sides will amaze you and the dessert will delight you and all of it is accompanied by our very best wine! Put on your flip-flops and your best tropical prints and enjoy a unique evening with us. Details on our " Happenings" page Also, mark your calendars for the weekend of July 19 & 20. We'll have 4 sessions where you can blend your very own Meritage. As you probably know, Meritage is a Bordeaux Blend. It can be an almost endless combination of the Bordeaux grapes depending on which varietals are used and what their juice ratios are. This is your opportunity to present your idea of the perfect Meritage. You'll have 2 hours to create your blend, Chris and Rob will taste and rate them according to their idea of the perfect blend and at the end of the 4 sessions a winner will be chosen. That winner's blend will go on to be our next blend and the winner will have their name right beside our winemakers names on the back label. Nothing says " I'm cool" like having your name on the back label of a La Grange wine. You must reserve a spot, see our " Happenings" page for details.
As you can tell, it's shaping up to be a fun summer at the winery. Bring your friends and hang out with us, nothing is quite so fun!
