Dear Wine Lover,
Melissa Message
What's Happening at the Winery
by Melissa Stephan

Melissa, Event ManagerSummer in winding down and we're starting to think about fall!  Is there any better time than fall in Virginia?  No way, not with our crisp breezes, cool evenings, apples to pick, football to watch and, at the winery, freshly harvested winemaking grapes going through the first steps towards becoming next year's favorite wines.  There is just no better time of the year!  I can practically feel the excitement as the winemakers discuss what's to come while I dream about what it will all taste like!

In celebration of all that fall has to offer, we've lined up some great reasons for you to gather your friends and come to the winery.  First, there's our 2nd anniversary celebration taking place throughout Labor Day Weekend (August 29-September 1).

We'll have a return visit from one of our favorite artisans, jewelry maker Lisa Balog, who will be showing and selling her extraordinary sterling, crystal and gemstone pieces all weekend.

There will be live music on Saturday and Monday from 1pm-4pm with the acoustic duo known as "Two for the Road" entertaining everyone with their Classic Rock, Country and Blues music.  Also on Saturday, our friends from the Baltimore Corvette Club will be here with a display of their very cool cars.

Our staff will, as always, cheerfully guide you through a tasting that now includes the long awaited and oh-so-wonderful Pinot Gris - what a delightful wine she is with a gold and a silver medal already hanging around her neck!  Our Sangria will be flowing and we'll have plenty of yummy snacks for you to enjoy along with your favorite wine.  When it's all over and you find yourself headed home, you'll go with a special tasting glass commemorating this very special weekend. (while supplies last).

You'll want to come back on Saturday September 13th to enjoy an exhibit of artwork by Ginny Sywyj.   She will be here with her impressionist oil paintings which feature landscapes, seascapes and street scenes.  She also enjoys doing pet portraits and will be happy to talk with you about arranging to paint your furry friend!  Her work will be on display and for sale from noon until 5:00pm on that day.

The following weekend is a big one!  Friday September 19th is our first "Crush Monkey Friday" class. This is your opportunity to see what is really involved in getting your wine from the grape into the bottle.  It's a hands on class guided by our own winemakers, Chris Pearmund and Rob Cox, and will be an incredible way to experience winemaking from start to finish as you process fruit right off the stems all the way into the barrel.  Class sizes are very small so sign up early, call us at the winery for dates and details or check out our Happenings page.

Lu Harris will be our visiting artist September 20-21.  Lu is a native of Napa Valley and its influence on her work is clear with her gorgeous paintings that are full of color and life.  Much of her work features wine and grape imagery and would make a fantastic addition to that spot in your house that's devoted to your love of wine, we know you have one!  Her work will be on display and for sale from 2-5pm both days.

Saturday the 20th is our next Winemaker's Dinner.  This one is a loving goodbye to everything we love about summer as we take this last opportunity to dine outside in the warm air with plates full of summer's late bounty and wine glasses filled with our favorite summer wines.  Wear your best summer frock, don a hat or a flower behind your ear and let's toast the last days of our warm weather friend.

Finally, September kicks off our "Picnic under the Stars" evenings.  This is your chance to leave the kids with Grandma and let the dishes sit in the sink until tomorrow.  Come on out to the winery for an evening on a blanket with a picnic we've put together just for you along with your choice of any one of our wines.  And, if you'd like, join us as we watch a movie on our giant screen.  The first picnic is Friday September 12th and we're in the mood to watch everybody's favorite comedy, Sideways.  Sounds fun doesn't it??   Check our webpage for other dates and movies this fall.

Now, as you can see, there is plenty to keep you busy this fall at La Grange and stay tuned, there's much more to come!

See you at the winery!!
